In the spirit of Ramadhan, we have invited 250 needy Muslims to an IFTAR dinner (break-fast) and will be distributing 250 bags of provisions on 21 August 2011. AP Fatimah Lateef (MP for Marine Parade GRC) will grace the event as Guest of Honour. Should you wish to sponsor food items or cash, please contact our General Office at Tel 68487040.

Hi all!!!
You are invited to Kampung Fest @ Malay Village Geylang Serai from 10 AM to to 6 PM.

Lots of activities going on...such as open air cinema, kebayarobik, local band, music, dance, and kompang competition, flea market and much much much more!!!!

Kids can enjoy the Kids Corner! They can draw with their creative mind with colors, play kampung games such as capteh, congkak, batu selembat, gasing and more. Or they can jump into our Big Balloon Castle!!!

Bring along your friends, families, to shop some foods and drinks while laugh your hearts out with comedian Husien Saaban as the event host!

Kompang competition will be held from 10am to 2pm @ Singgahsana Hall by Putra and Dermaga Seni Pusaka!

Also catch our in-house performer showcase Kuda Kepang dance from 11am to 10pm by Kesenian Tedja Timur.

Hey all, recently 30 students from Pierce Secondary School visited the Malay Village!

The students learnt about the Malay culture as they stroll through our "Kampung Museum" and "Kampung Days".

Our guide teaching a group of students weave a ketupat. They also got a hands-on weaving ketupat and bunga manggar. Best of all, they got to taste malay kueh!

Picture below shows some students learning to play bola raga. Other kampung games played were congkak, five stones, gasing and chapteh.

There were many of them and so the visit was split into 4 straight days..

RANGSANG RIAS PUSAKA BANGSA VI / THE SIXTH HEIRLOOM REJUVENATION CEREMONY

The above event was held at Malay Village for 2 straight days on 19 & 20 Dec 2009.

Being "Colours of my Kampung" as the theme for the event, the programme was filled with malay dances, keris display, kampung games etc.
The picture on the left shows how the game "five stones" is played.

Guest-of-Honour for the event was Mr K. Shanmugam, Minister for Law & Second Minister for Home Affairs, MP for Sembawang GRC.

Malay Village also organised Kampung Fest on 25/12/09 to reminiscence the Kampung Days!!

st. nicholas girls school

Hi there everybody!

In the morning today, we had a wonderful sch grp from St. Nicholas Girls School organised by TC Centre Pte Ltd. There were a total of 407 students!

Some of the students having their picture taken with brides and grooms at the wedding dais in our museum!

At the beautifully decorated bridal room.

Other than touring our Kampung Days and museum, they were given a chance for a hands-on at our kampung games and "bungga manggar". The students certainly enjoyed the traditional Malay dance specially prepared for them, best!!

On the eve of Hari Raya Puasa, Putra Association and Pehak ended our one month event, Gema Ramadhan 2009 @ Kampung Melayu in style!

As expected, they went on to put up an entertaining performances with different kompang beats and various dances!
And with that, on behalf of the staff and management of Malay Village, we wish all Selamat Hari Raya, Maaf Zahir Batin!! and yes...happy holidays!

week 4 {gema ramadhan 2009 @ Kampung melayu}

WEEK 4 was yet another excellent kompang and dance performances from Putra Association and Pehak held on Saturday 12/9/09!

And for the first time, on Sunday night 13/9/09, a number of dikir barat groups combine together to perform for the audiences...a huge effort made by Dikir Barat group "Chuchu Datuk Merah"!

The Dikir Barat group put up an energetic performance and it certainly make the atmosphere in Malay Village SKY HIGH! The performers include those from "Durba Dua", "Kelana Purba", "Mak Yong" etc.

Week 3 was awesome!

As promised we had various javanese and malay dances on 5/9/09, Saturday,. On top of that, there were also kompang performances!

On Sunday night, 6/9/09, "Orkes Mutiara from Majlis Pusat" bring back old memories with music from the 1960's, malay dances and keris display!

Week 2 of gema ramadhan 2009 @ kampung melayu was a BLAST !!! The event started out with procession by 18 kompang groups around Malay Village.

UNGU & LOCAL ARTISTES BREAKING FAST WITH ORPHANAGE AT MALAY VILLAGE

Popular Indonesian Pop Band "Ungu" made it to Malay Village for a private function of breaking fast with the orphanage. "Majlis Iftar Media 2009" was organised by I Media Entertainment, 3G Karma, Media Reel dan Monstrou Studios, B425 Pictures and Shortman films.

Children from Darul Ihsan dan Darul Ma'wa orphanage were invited to this event which was recorded LIVE at Malay Village!

Ungu is also well-known in Singapore as well as Malaysia with many of their popular hits songs played on local radio.

Anugerah Band 2008 Winner, RANCOUR ROCKS ON THE STAGE!

Other local artistes were also here to perform such as Rancour(Band), Maya Rahman, Hyrul Anuar, Revalina, Catty (Anugerah 2009) and Orkestra Melayu Singapura (OMS).

Hey ppl...Dr Jazlan Joosoph of Raffles Hospital was at Malay Village providing "health talk" on cervical cancer for women on 15/8/09.
There were promotional Hari Raya Package Vouchers for those interested in vaccination!

Our friendly 89.7fm DJ, Fiza O was also here to raise awareness on available cervical cancer vaccination.

blood donation drive 2009

On Sunday, we had our very FIRST BLOOD DONATION DRIVE together with the Bone Marrow Donor Programme.

Here are some of our donors!

And an extremely mischievious one:

Donating blood is all about saving lives. Did you know that ONE bag of blood can save THREE lives?

And making a bone marrow donor pledge can make a big difference too! There's only a 1 in 20, 000 chance for compatibility of bone marrows WITHIN ethnic groups and while patients are waiting for YEARS for a suitable donor, YOU MIGHT JUST BE THE ONE! Plus, bone marrow donations is almost like donating blood - pretty much painless due to general anaesthesia. :)

MASS TRADITIONAL DANCE! They were pretty confused with the steps of the dance initially but after 2 rounds or so, they all got it right.

After some explanation of how the Gasing is played, they felt how heavy the traditional metal gasing is and how hard it is to play it.

Tours with performances and games are always ultimate fun! :) Our dancers always manage to get the mood so sky high!

we've added a few events to our list and here's two of them! :)

The second hand mart will be a regular weekend event for people to buy and sell their items that are still in good condition! Some things are just left lying at home so why not bring them down and make some spare cash?! :D

The event is held every weekend at the Hall of Fame (outside Penghulu Room) in Malay Village. Do drop us a ring if you would like to participate in this buying and selling of second hand goods!

Also, we'll be celebrating Prophet Muhammad's birthday on 8 March 2009!

Do join us in this meaningful celebration (FOC!) at the Singgahsana Hall!
On the same day, we'll also be open for registration for Blood Donors for our upcoming Blood Donation event on 15 March 2009 (one week after the celebration) and we would like to appeal to you to share the gift of life generously. :)

community health screening 2009!

The health screening in collaboration in SATA was successfully held today at the Singgahsana Hall! :) Our partners in this project are Kampong Kembangan MAEC and Kampong Ubi IAEC who provided the goody bags for the event!

We had over 120 participants in this health screening which was free for those 55 and above. Here are just some photos from the event.

Kaki Kaki and Chinta Weddings collaborated for a Wedding Exhibition and Fashion Show at Malay Village on Saturday. It was a magnificent display of the wedding scene with a luxurious and grand feel to it. Pages off a fairy tale, it felt like!

It was a great display showing the potential grandeur that weddings could take on. The fairytale mood, the class and the luxury. Imagine if you were the bride or groom!

KAMPONG FEST WAS A GREAT SUCCESS! Thank you to those who came down and those who have supported us in one way or another. Thank you to our dear tenants for providing the lucky draw prizes as well! (:

Kampong Fest (just a brief one okay?) is basically a day of fun and games at Malay Village. We had performances by various groups AROUND the village (at the same time), mini bazaar stalls, games, free entry to our museums, workshops and a LUCKY DRAW!

Hey, did you guys come down for the week 3 Ramadhan Programme? Here's what we had. :D

Syaharan - The Meaning of Faith.

Drama - "Ape Yang Kita Tak Nampak" by SHH Productions followed the Syarahan. Tickets were at sale at $8 each and they sure did have alot of supporters!

Hearing the audience's laughter, I'm sure they thought the drama to be fantastic!

Here's our GM with the GOH and VIPs for the TAA Majlis Iftar.

Our GOH, M.P. Zainul Abidin Rasheed and the treasurer of TAA, Mr. Yahya Zakaria.

Here, our GOH is giving green packets to children from the Darun Maawa Children's Home. It was a meaningful night for these children and for all of us involved in this charity event.

There was also the performance by Nayaga Cimande.

Even the children enjoyed the traditional music they were playing!

There was the whipping performance, without the HUGE whip this time round! :)

We also invited tourists to try playing the traditional Gamelan.

With lots of help from the Nayaga Cimande performers.

They also got some chapteh for souvenirs! :)

And that marked the end of our Ramadhan Programme for the third week.

The teachers of Bedok North Secondary School paid a visit to Malay Village last Thursday!

Sunday events!!

From 9.00am -4.00pm TAA Charity Disbursement was held at our Singgahsana Hall.

The G.O.H for the event, MP Masagos-MP for Tampines GRC(middle) with VIPs Mr Zulkifli Chairman of Majlis Pusat and Mr Izzudin President of 4PM.

Our very own GM, Mr Jeffrey Chan(left) mingling with the VIPs.

Later on that night, Sri Cahaya entertained the crowd with their malay dance moves.

Followed by black & white movie screening titled "Ali Baba Bujang Lapok" popular since the 1960s.

Saturday marked the busiest day of the Ramadhan month (in terms of performances) in Malay Village. :)

The Management of Malay Village also provided buffet for performers and staff of Malay Village in gratitude for the hard work put in this Ramadhan Month.

The performers put up a fantastic show and the audience were tickled and thrilled!

The procession including Kesenian Tedja Timur (represented by those in red), Dermaga Seni Pusaka (represented by those in purple) and Nayaga Cimande (represented by those in black). THEY MADE THE NOISE AND MUSIC MAN! All in the name of CELEBRATION. ;)

ramadhan programme - week 1

It's been one week since we last updated. Time really flies when you're enjoying yourself amidst the festive season!

The Malay Village held various free-admission performances over the weekend and even though it was raining heavily on Saturday, the dancers from Kesenian Tedja Timur and Dermaga Seni Pusaka continued their performance with all enthusiasm. Yes, they got their clothes wet but the spirits of the audience were definitely not dampened. :)

The light up ceremony this year was absolutely fantastic with great performances and sporting Guest-of-Honours. :)

At the reception area (outside Rumah Seri of Malay Village), there was a music and dance to entertain our guests as they mingled around.

After the reception was the concert with the official light up ceremony. Our guest-of-honour was SM Goh Chok Tong.

We had a school group from KINDERLAND today and we brought the children around Kampung Days, the Kampung Museum and to the games corner. Take a look at these photos!

singapore cat club olympic cat show

The Singapore Cat Club hosted the 35th anniversary Cat Show on Sunday and cat-lovers gathered and brought their pets to the Singghasana Hall for the Olympic Cat Show.

Cat food and clothing were sold so that the animals could doll up for the event. :)

Hey all, the next event coming up will be the Singapore Cat Club Olympic Cat Show on the 24th and we're calling all animal lovers to join us here at Malay Village!

Also, in lieu of the festive season coming up, we've brought in festive lightings exclusively sold in Malay Village! There'll be a stall selling these lightings in Malay Village's Hari Raya Bazaar but if you're thinking of grabbing these before the crowd, you can call us or come down to the General Office in Malay Village to purchase them. :)

This lamp is handmade from over 800 beads and can be hanged from the ceiling to give the place a cosy look.

They serve as fantastic night lights for the children. ;)

60th kesenian tedja timur anniversary - a big bang!

16/08/08 marks the celebration of the 60th Kesenian Tedja Timur Anniversary. It was a BIG BANG held here at Malay Village with a large crowd at both the performance and the kuda kepang trance!

The event was held at our very own Singghasana Hall in collaboration with NUS and MCYS.

Let's take a look at the photos of the event!

The crowds flooded the hall more than half an hour before the event started! That's really some strong support from people from all age groups and races!

All waiting for a wonderful performance to celebrate the 60th Kesenian Tedja Timur Anniversary!

These fans were given out for free. Of course, there isn't a need for it in the air-conditioned Singghasana Hall but they would sure need it for the Kuda Kepang Trance held in the open-air carpark later on.

This is the mediator monkey who helped bring the Queen and the King together.

And as all fairy tales end, they lived happily ever after.

After the performance, there was a procession to the Kuda Kepang Trance performance at the open-space carpark.

and it was sure worth the watch!

The Kuda Kepang Trance performance takes place EVERY SATURDAY in the open-air carpark behind the management office of Malay Village, bring your family down for this interesting performance and bond with the community as well!

After the Kuda Kepang performance, there was a post-performance celebration where everyone gathered around to sing the birthday song for Kesenian Tedja Timur.

Can you feel the spirit?! IT WAS HIGH! And that's the special thing here in Malay Village, you can feel the KAMPONG SPIRIT ALL THE WAY!

IT WAS A GREAT SUCCESS! CONGRATULATIONS TO KESENIAN TEDJA TIMUR and thank you ALL for the great support!

Prep for the 60th Kesenian Tedja Timur Anniversary.

Tomorrow marks the celebration of the 60th Kesenian Tedja Timur Anniversary held at Malay Village where there will be exhibits, wayang kulit and kuda kepang trance. The team is well prepared for it and remember, ADMISSION IS FREE FOR ALL so join us in this grand and enjoyable event where you can learn more about the Malay culture through music and dance!

Let us first introduce you to the grand instruments now sitting in the Singgahsana Hall in Malay Village waiting for their wonderful performance tomorrow.

This is the bonang barong.

And these belong to the family of gongs - the suwukan.

One of the cast of the wayang kulit, this is the fire demon of the set. Note its bright colours and fiery expression!

The drums are better known as khendang and those percussion instruments you see are under the family of balongan further categorised into peking, saron, demung, slenthem and slentho according to the sizes.

The one on the foreground, yes, the one with bumps, is the slentho of the balongan family.

The set is not fully set up yet but can you see its potential grandeur? if you can't visualise it, come down to Malay Village tomorrow and see it for yourself! Bring your cameras! It can be such a great family event!
